Achoo! Montana Makes The Top 10 For This Old Trick.
When I was a teenager in High School, math was my worst subject, but, it didn't take long for me to figure out that we had so many days that we could miss for being sick each semester. In my view, I saw those as vacation days, and if you didn't use them, you would lose them.
Much to my parent's displeasure, I would carefully plan out my calendar to try and get as many 3-day weekends as possible. I knew all the tricks. Warming up the thermometer, faking a cough, or my personal favorite, claiming that there was an issue with my lower digestive tract.
Of course, I'm certainly not the only Montanan that has ever played hooky from either work or school.
In fact, Montana ranks rather high when it comes to people looking to make up false reasons of why they can't make it to work or class according to new data. Especially when it comes to big events like huge sporting events that the whole world watches.
Betway decided to look into Google search data to find out which states had the most residents searching for "ways to call in sick from work" and what they found was that Montana made the Top 10.
The Treasure State ranks 10th on the list but isn't the only state from our area that is trying to come up with different excuses to skip out of work. Wyoming and both North and South Dakota made the Top 10 as well, with Wyoming coming in 4th and South Dakota and North Dakota coming in 7th and 9th.
So what is the logic behind it? Why are so many people in our region looking to find ways to get out of going to work?
In the case of the day after a big game, I'm assuming that might have something to do with large amounts of alcohol being consumed. Or maybe it's the fact that we celebrate winter 6 months of the year in all 4 states. Either way, congrats to my fellow hooky players.
