Montana Animal Shelter Needs Your Old Cooler…For the Kitties

Winter is here, and we are slowly getting acclimated to the long cold nights and frigid winds. But, as we sit in our heated homes enjoying hot cocoa, there are animals and pets outside roaming the frozen wasteland.

Montana is no different than much of the rest of the country. In regards to homeless cats and dogs, Montana has our share of stray and feral cats. Not all of them make it into animal shelters. And not all animal shelters have the funds to take in all the strays they find.

According to the ASPCA

Approximately 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.1 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats. About 810,000 animals who enter shelters as strays are returned to their owners. Of those, 710,000 are dogs and 100,000 are cats.

So what are we supposed to do during the harsh winter months? Just leave them outside and wish them well? What if there was a way to create tiny cat homes, for homeless cats?

Fox Hollow Animal Project in Corvallis, MT has a great idea to help cats this winter.

All they need is a small donation from you. Something that may be taking up room in your garage. Something that you rarely use, because you tend to buy a new one every couple of years. I'm talking about your musty old plastic cooler. You know? The one you forgot to clean out that one time, and now it has a weird smell? Cats won't mind that smell as much as you do. Especially when it is -10 degrees outside.

Fox Hollow Animal Project is looking to recycle your old coolers. They are accepting donations of old coolers and converting them into insulated shelters for feral cats.
