Missoula’s Garden City Softball Heads to Northwest Regional Tournament

As a small-town baseball player, the Little League World Series was always must-see television for me growing up. Unfortunately, my hometown was never in the "Little League" system, so my teams could never reach the World Series.

Not that we would have anyway.  

It was still a treat to watch all of the kids get their shot on the big stage, on ESPN. 

We're hoping the local softball team has a chance to do just that.

Garden City Softball To Play in Little League NW Regional Tournament

The Garden City Softball team (ages 11–12) heads to the Northwest Regional Tournament in San Bernardino, California, this weekend after clinching the Montana state championship last week.

"It's an amazing achievement by these girls," said Garden City Softball Little League President Tim Grey. "They've been working hard all season to get themselves ready for this, and to have this culminate with a state championship and being able to represent Montana, it's just been fantastic."

The 2026 team is the first Missoula team to reach the NW Regional Tournament since 2019, adding to the excitement and importance of the accomplishment.  

"It's well overdue for us to represent Montana, that's for sure. It's pretty exciting," said Grey.

Montana starts its tournament Saturday evening (6 pm) against the state tournament champs from Oregon. Garden City Softball will play a round-robin format against Oregon, Colorado, Alaska, Idaho, and Washington.

Games begin on Saturday and run through Thursday, July 21. The games will be broadcast on ESPN+.  

Since it's such a quick turnaround from winning the state championship to traveling to San Bernardino, the team could use your help getting there. A Venmo QR code is listed below.
