There have been 27 Montanans who have made it to Major League Baseball per Baseball Reference. The first Montanan debuted way back in 1914 with everybody's favorite player Steamboat Williams.

Which Montanan will play in the Majors this year?

In 2024, there was only one Montana-born Major Leaguer according to a Reddit user who conducted their own research.

Grant McCray will aim for his second year of Major League Baseball this year with the San Francisco Giants organization. McCray was born in Billings in 2000. McCray didn't play high school ball in Montana. He, like most baseball players, played his high school ball in Florida at Lakewood Ranch High School. Smart move. McCray was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2019 but reached the bigs for the first time in 2024. He appeared in 37 games while batting.202 with 5 home runs and 10 runs batted in.

Grant is following in the footsteps of his dad Rodney McCray who played in the Major Leagues in the early 90s. Rodney played for the Chicago White Sox in 1990 and 1991 and the New York Mets in 1992.

Random fun fact: Grant's middle name is "Snow." Born in Billings with a middle name like Snow is very fitting.
