Best Hangouts and Activties for the “Older” Missoula Crowd
I just celebrated my 40th birthday. No remorse here. If anything, I feel like my age is getting closer to how old I feel. Not because of aches and pains or because I want to tell people to "Get off my lawn!" I appreciate the slower, quieter things in life: gardening, a slowly steeping cup of tea, a thick book, and a thick blanket.
My coworkers tease me because I don't fit the DJ stereotypes (loud music, little sleep, repeat).
With Missoula being a college town, the activities for an older crowd might not be immediately obvious, but age is just a number. You'll see 80-year-olds at the metal concerts and 12-year-olds playing bridge in Missoula.
So here are some places and activities that might appeal to someone looking for activities that might be quieter, or happen earlier in the day in general.
Missoula Symphony
Even Jamie Lee Curtis wants matinee concerts. While Vampire Weekend did play on a Sunday afternoon this summer in Bonner, if you want matinees consider attending the Missoula Symphony.
Mahjong/Bridge/Cribbage Groups
While you might see older groups playing these games, it's not always the case. I've written about Cribbage before and this activity, especially in Missoula, is an all-ages activity. You can read more about Missoula's cribbage community below.

MissoulaMovers Coffee Walks
Missoula has great walking and biking groups. The MissoulaMovers Coffee Walks has a schedule of walks and hikes around Missoula this fall that vary in difficulty level.
Book Clubs/Silent Book Club
The OG quiet activity: reading. What's brilliant about the growing popularity of silent book clubs is that they combine a social activity with a quiet one.
Hangout: Any restaurant open before 8 am on a weekday.
Ruby's Cafe. The Break. Paul's Pancake Parlor. Bernice's Bakery. You get the idea.
