There are some good things about living in a big state without a big population. With our smaller population, we don't have as much light pollution as other places in the country. This makes for some spectacular viewing of our night skies.
Several locations in Montana have been recognized for their views of our skies. We have some of the best viewing of the Northern Lights and we also have some confirmed "Dark Sky" locations.

We can now add another location in Montana that's one of the best to view celestial events. This location may actually be one of the best of them all. If you want to get a good glimpse of our entire universe, this may be just the place.
Montana's Glacier National Park Has Some of the Best Milky Way Viewing
Not only is it a great place where you can still view the Milky Way, it's also a pretty spectacular place to view some of the most gorgeous parts of our planet. We are talking about Glacier National Park. According to MSN.com, Glacier is one of the best places in the country where you can still get a great view of the Milky Way.
With Glacier being so isolated and with no major cities in the area, it's a prime spot for viewing our universe. Who knows how long this will last? The more people that are moving to our state and the more the population continues to increase there may be a day where the only way to see our universe is through a telescope.

Some of my fondest memories as a kid growing up in Montana were the nights lying on our backs, staring at the sky for hours counting shooting stars, satellites, and hoping for the occasional UFO.
