Missoula is bidding a bittersweet farewell to one of its cherished local eateries, Sonny’s Original, as the owners have announced they are closing the doors to their brick-and-mortar shop, on Butler Creek Road, to focus on spending more time with their families.

The announcement, shared in a heartfelt post on the Sonny’s Original Facebook page, came as a surprise to many loyal customers who have made the eatery a go-to spot for their cheesesteak sandwich fix.

Sonny’s Original, known for its cheesesteak sandwiches made with quality ingredients, has been a member of the Missoula and Bitterroot communities for almost a decade. The Sonny's Original truck, which started as an old "Snap-On Tools truck", was transformed into a food truck that has served countless cheesesteaks and orders of fries over the years.

Sonny's will be closing the doors at their Butler Creek location for good on December 12th. The response from the community has been overwhelming, with comments pouring onto the post thanking Sonny’s for the memories and for being a vital part of Missoula’s community.

'Love you guys! You will be missed!' wrote one customer. 'Sonny’s is one of our favorite places to go. So sorry to hear about this.' wrote another. Most customers understand the reasoning behind the closing, writing, 'Man will I miss you guys, but family comes first and that’s true for everyone. Congrats on a great business that our community will greatly miss. Thank you Sonny’s!!!'.

Though the doors may close, we may not have seen the last of Sonny's Original in Western Montana. Missoula will miss you, Sonny’s—we hope to see the old Snap-On truck on the road again serving up those cheesesteaks one day.
