You never know who owns your local businesses. They can be the lifelong Ma and Pa local owners, the corporate overlords buying up places in your town, a local group of investors, or even Hollywood writers.

That's right... Even Hollywood writers.

A friend told me last night that Double K Ranch was founded by a Hollywood screenwriter. I had never heard of this story and asked a few of my coworkers if they had. It seems to be relatively unknown, so I had to write about it.

Meet Double K Ranch Owners Jim & Lynn Kouf

Jim and Lynn founded the Double K Ranch in 1985. Jim Kouf, however, doubles as a TV show and movie writer and producer.

Kouf wrote for some pretty big movies like Rush Hour (1998), National Treasure (2004), and National Treasure: Book of Secrets (2007). He also wrote for TV shows like Angel and Grimm.

Here are Kouf's full IMDB credits.

Jim also shares the story behind the ranch on Double K's website. He grew up on a ranch, the ranch was sold, and he wanted to get back into it.

"I was devastated when the ranch was sold. I was sixteen. And a big part of my youth was gone with it. I had the memories, but memories are tough to share. I vowed that if I ever got married and had kids, I also had to have a ranch." - Jim Kouf on Doublekranchmt.com

He was born in Hollywood, wrote in Hollywood, and created a great ranch in Montana.

The Koufs had 3 kids — Breanna, Kalli, and Dillon. Dillon Kouf is listed on Double K's website as an owner and operator.

Double K Ranch is opening up its downtown Missoula location — a bar & general store located at 125 S. Higgins Ave. next to The Wilma.
