Forget the video games and the endless scrolling. It’s time to trade the touchscreen for a tackle box.

FREE KIDS FISHING DAY, INCLUDING TRIBAL LICENSING WAIVED

Angela Montana with the Montana Outdoor Radio Show tells us that Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is hosting its annual Ninepipes Kids' Fishing Day, May 2, from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, at the Kids' Fishing Pond Near Ninepipes Reservoir. To get real (or "reel") specific, it's located at 69286 US Hwy 93 South, Charlo.

Whether your kid has some fishing experience or is brand new to angling, this event is the perfect excuse to get some fresh Montana air. And maybe land a few "keepers."

EVENT DETAILS

Kids' Free Fishing Day at the Ninepipes Pond is for all kids from kindergarten through 12th Grade.

  • No Red Tape: All state and tribal licensing requirements are waived during the event. It’s free-flowing fun without the paperwork.
  • No Homework (Registration): Just show up! No pre-registration is required. They like to keep things as fluid as the water.
  • Gear on Loan: While you should bring your own gear if you have it, there is a limited supply of poles and tackle available for those just testing the waters.
  • Community Vibes: Supported by local businesses like Westland Seed of Charlo, this is a true community day designed to get the next generation hooked on the great outdoors.

Don't forget essentials like water and snacks, along with layers of clothing. Even though the calendar says May, Mother Nature has been know to get a chuckle out of that.
