Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On April 10, 2026, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Missoula Police Department officers were dispatched to a report of disturbance in the area of Shakespeare Street and Cooper Street. The report to dispatch was that three males were fighting, and one of the males was holding a brick.

As an officer approached the area, two males hastily left. The officer contacted the third male. The other office caught up to the other two men, and one was identified as 25-year-old Johnny Shipp. Shipp and the other male reported that the third male appeared to be under the influence of opioids.

Upon contact with law enforcement, the third male began posturing up and had his fist clenched. The third male began pounding his chest with his fist, then slowly laid on the ground and placed his hands behind his back. His hands then went limp and fell to his sides. Then he became nonresponsive, was administered Narcan, and was transported to St. Patrick’s Hospital.

Shipp stated that the third male began following them, became hostile towards them, and yelled at them, challenging them to fight. Shipp stated that they began to leave the area, and that was when law enforcement arrived.

During the contact, Shipp mentioned that he was currently on probation. An officer contacted probation about their contact with Shipp. Probation requested a search of Shipp’s person and backpack.

During the search of Shipp’s backpack, the officer located numerous clean and used hypodermic needles, multiple pieces of folded up tinfoil, a clear plastic “tooter” straw with a burnt end, and a hypodermic syringe with a clear liquid inside.

Shipp was placed under arrest for criminal possession of drug paraphernalia and a probation violation. The hypodermic syringe had about 10 units of clear liquid. The clear liquid was later tested and returned a presumptive positive for amphetamine with a TruNarc test.
