But if you have a boat stored outside, it wouldn't be a bad move to turn it over before it gets so full of rainwater it will be hard to do so in a few days.

That's because thunderstorms with "moderate to heavy rain" are headed Montana's way over the next couple of days, storms that could dump up to half an inch in selected areas.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service office in Missoula issued the warning Tuesday, saying a low-pressure system will set up over Wyoming at week's end, pushing a large amount of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico into the Northern Rockies.

That means Western Montana and Central Idaho will get swamped, with the amount of moisture jumping "200 to 250%" over normal levels Thursday and continuing into Friday. That means the valleys of West Central and Southwest Montana will have a 50% chance of receiving up to half an inch of rain, with an 80% chance in the surrounding mountains. There's a 40-to-50% chance higher terrain could receive an inch or more.

Flood advisories and watches east of the Divide

Areas along the I-90 corridor, and south will see most of the rain impacts Thursday, moving to the north on Friday. NWS is warning tourists visiting Glacier National Park to be prepared for very wet weather on both days, lasting into the weekend.

And that rain could be coming down on already soggy areas. Butte set a new daily record for rainfall Tuesday when the Mining City received 1.82" of precipitation.

Forecasters warn people to be especially careful during the storms in areas of slides and burn scares, including along Highway 93 near Salmon that were burned during the Moose Creek and Williams Creek Fires.
