Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On February 15, 2023, the University of Montana reported another rise in student enrollment for the spring semester. According to UM director of strategic communications Dave Kuntz, 10,109 students were in the official census count for the 2023 spring semester, which is a 3.1% student enrollment increase from spring 2022.

“In this specific Spring, what we are seeing is more students returned after the winter break than we have seen in years past, which is good. As we talk about enrollment, it is not just recruiting new Freshmen to campus, but making sure students stay on the path toward graduation. We have also seen a big jump over at Missoula College, specifically with some early admit students. These are students that might be finishing up their high school here in the Missoula area and decide to get a head start on college with the hopes they will be full-time students at UM in the fall.”

In addition, Kuntz said they also saw a big jump in the number of student veterans, in-state students, and Native American students. Kuntz is hopeful there will be another increase in the fall.

“We have put in a lot of hard work over the past few months and we are really optimistic that, for the third consecutive year, we will bring in a big Freshman class that can help power the overall enrollments here. The reason that is such a big deal is that not only do we want to grow the University of Montana and grow the number of students that are here learning, but there are also some pretty significant revenue implications that allow the university to continue to provide a world-class education.”

Kuntz said the 2023 spring semester marks the fourth consecutive semester of growth at UM.
