What do you think of when you hear the words "Montana wine?" Did you ever consider Montana to be wine country at all? It's nowhere near the popularity of California's Napa Valley, the northeast regions of France, or the Mendoza region of Argentina where some of the most well-known wines of the world are manufactured but just like most things in the Treasure State, it can still surprise you.

There's all kinds of taste buds out there, and seemingly just as many different wines to satiate our palates. Here's some Montana wines to pair with your Christmas and holiday dinners.

Some love the biting yet pleasant and smoky taste of a cabernet. And it pairs beautifully with Montana's favorite food: meat. Elk sausage, bison burgers, or good old-fashioned steaks. My dad used to swear by pouring cheap cabernet on top of steaks on the grill, he was onto something.

Recently featured on Bon Appetit's "Wines From Every State" series, Hidden Legend is described as "herbaceous" and pairs great with steaks. Hidden Legend is based in Victor, Montana and also produces meads.

This wine isn't produced in Montana but the grapes are grown in the Helena vineyard. I haven't tried it yet but the Anakota describes it as having notes of berries, currant and spices.

No matter which wine you go for, we hope your holiday season is a safe & responsible one. Please don't drink and drive.
