How To Help Support Teachers This School Year

With back to school season in full swing all over our state of Montana this time of year, teachers and schools can use a hand and there are some things that you can do that are pretty simple and will help out a lot. According to a new survey over 50% of teachers have considered quitting blaming lack of pay, stress and lack of respect. So what can you do to help? Here are some tips that will help teachers and schools.

Read The Emails

Almost all schools these days are using emails to communicate with both teachers and students. Read the emails. I find myself guilty of not reading the emails thoroughly from my children's teachers. I then make the mistake of asking them questions they already addressed in the emails, it wastes their time and yours.

Donate School Supplies

Teachers spend their own money trying to fill the holes in their supplies. According to one report teachers will spend over $700 of their own money on supplies. So while buying supplies for your child, grab an extra package of pencils, pens, or an extra box of tissues, it will go a long way to help the teacher and the school.

Be Active in your Child's Learning

Pay attention to your kids classes, their homework and their school. Just them about their school and their classes. I can't help my kids much with their homework these days, but I ask them about what they have going on and it helps them knowing at least I have an interest. Teachers can't do it all.

Volunteer

Schools have lots of opportunities for parents to help out and volunteer. You can read to the students, help during lunch, help during recess and more. We are all busy, but taking an hour to read to a class is a great way to connect with the students and the school.

Recognize Great Teachers

Acknowledge the teachers that your kids like. Let them know you appreciate them and that they are doing a good job. Everyone likes to hear that every once in a while.
