Montana Reacts To Brawl Of The Wild 2022
The 121st Brawl Of The Wild ended up exactly as expected, for half of Montana's football fans. For the other half, it was a disappointing rout that left fans reeling. In front of a national audience, the Bobcats beat the Griz 55-21 to host the Great Divide Trophy until next year. It was the 42nd time Montana State had beat the Griz in their storied rivalry (the 2011 game was won by Montana, though the win was vacated after NCAA sanctions.)
After the game, we combed through social media for reactions from both University of Montana and Montana State fans, and picked out some gems:
Quinn posted this in the third quarter of the game when MSU was up 41-7.
"Bawl Of The Wild"...Dad's not the first to make that joke, and he won't be the last.
He was the only member of the Gameday on-air staff to pick the Griz to win. UM fans may or may not appreciate the sympathy point he tacked on to the final score, as if it mattered.
Strangely, there wasn't a lot of post-game gloating going on in the Bozeman subreddit. It did get a little vulgar, though. Read at your own discretion.
Life goes on in the Treasure State, win or lose. We had to go back to work too.
This comment section got a little too real for Griz fans. Change can be scary once you look outside the cave.
Callie, who exactly were you rooting for?
Noted, Griz Nation lobbied hard to get ESPN College Gameday in Missoula last year. Now we wonder how we would have performed in our own house.
At least the old "paper bag on my head" gag doesn't have as much history with the Griz as it does with some professional football franchises.
You were trying too hard, Soup. And now you have to take your lumps.
In the middle of a rout like the Bobcats put on the Griz, at what point does it feel like you're beating up your little sister? Good on this guy for enjoying the best part of Montana, which is always outdoors.
Hats off to this dad!
And finally, when one fan was asked about their final thoughts on the game...
